Something Different.

It's the little touches that make a home so special. Apart from the paint color and perfect array of furniture - try sprinkling your decor with little touches of originality. This past weekend I found mine while sifting through vintage photos at my parents' house. I fell in love with these old photos of my dad and can't wait to choose one of them to frame.

No vintage photos of your parents? Not your style? Here are a few other ways you could customize a room to say "YOU"

Display your collection - whatever it may be (excluding pokemon or anything of that nature). Nothing says "you" quite like things you love.

Don't be afraid to toss in something wacky that may not make sense. See the tree stump in the picture above? It completes this corner perfectly even if it doesn't make sense to your brain. Find your own tree stump! Metaphorically or physically.

Display your initials proudly. On the wall, on your couch, on your sheets - wherever! Nothing says you quite like your own name.

Art work that says more than just "oh this looks nice". Try adding pieces that have a story. A playbill? A photo from a memorable vacation? Something you made yourself? A witty saying? Something re-purposed that isn't art at all? Get creative. I love to look on Etsy and to make things myself.

Do a DIY project, especially if you are self proclaimed against it. It doesn't have to be as extensive as the photo above, try a tray or a picture frame. But no matter what, just try it. I like projects (like the one above) that make you take a second glance and wonder "is that a : : fill in the blank : : ?"

What pieces in your home say "uniquely you"?

  1. Such a great idea. I wouldn't have thought to use a tree stump as a side table, but after seeing it I can't stop from thinking "Why wouldn't you use it?"

  2. What a great inspirational post. You have some great ideas here. I'm still trying to understand what my style is......I think I like too many things, so I guess my style would be found within that mix
