It was my good friend's birthday last weekend so my roommate and I got together to make her the sweetest of surprises. She took on the cake and I appointed myself to the topper (and of course, accompanying wine). Girlfriends having a birthday is infinitely better than any boy because it is the perfect opportunity to try out all those things you see on Pinterest.

What you need:

Start by cutting out hearts on glitter paper of various sizes. Use the old grade-school method of folding them to get symmetrical sides. Make sure to cut an exact replica of each heart as you will glue them together in the next step.

Using your trusty hot glue gun and coat one side in glue, then placing the barbecue skewer in the middle, and the matching heart on top.

Repeat for as many skewers as you would like. Then, cut each skewer to a different length (the more random, the better). I followed my inspiration photo as a guideline.

Then bring cake to said friend and forget to take any blog worthy photos. Oops. I did manage to snap a photo of it on instagram after we already cut into it.
Cute! I was just thinking of doing something similar for a friends bridal shower.
ReplyDeleteThis is quite possibly the most adorable thing I have seen in...ever. Glittery hearts atop a pink and white layer cake?! Just too much loveliness. Also, so sweet of you to do this for your friend. I hope she liked it!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a cute and simple idea to make any cake extra special! Thanks for sharing, I may have to make these for valentine's day!!
